Creature Comfort

The creatures straggled in.
Armless and legless
their forms emerged
from the scissors.
The one-eyed gaze of the early arrivals
silently engaging, questioning -
"You brought us here.
What you gonna do with us now, then ? "
As their numbers and species grew
so did their limbs - and attitude.
With two eyes they blinked
their babbled messages,
seeking out a listener
and a place of peace.
Then their voices found the ether
and drifted silently,
even into the minds of strangers.
Neighbours heard the sighs
and chatter in the night.
Visitors sensed their compelling need
for companionship.
Each new wide-eyed presence
filled a leak in the hull
where grief was seeping in
with frightening force

So here they gather, seeking the shelter
of Macfarlane's Ark, sifting through
the flotsam and jetsam of his spirit,
gathering strength
while waiting for the skies to clear,
and ride the cusp
of that all too elusive
rainbow.
